Ageratum As summer fast approaches, I would like to suggest plants that will repel mosquitoes in your landscape and how to use these plants to enjoy the outdoors during summer. Rabbit Resistant Plants As gardeners we would envision our garden as the prettiest on the street, but nature sometimes intervenes with bugs and rabbits. Rabbits have been a major nuisance this year to gardeners and these creatures can destroy a plant or plants overnight. Unfortunately, there is not a plant that is 100 percent rabbit proof, because if the rabbits are hungry enough they will eat any plant. Rabbits do not like foliage that is rough in texture, pubescent foliage, lemony or scented foliage. Tropical and Cold Hardy Banana Plants Banana plants are one of the most versatile plants to use in the landscape or in containers. The banana plant can be fruiting or ornamental in nature, and both will produce an inflorescence (flower), but only the fruiting varieties produce edible bananas. Banana Bloom and Fruit Banana plants enhance a tropical allure to your landscape with their lush green foliage with leaves measuring 2 feet wide x 6 feet long. Bananas have a fast growth rate, and some varieties will produce fruit within 9 months after planting.  Can you imagine harvesting bananas growing in your yard or container? Impossible you think. It is possible to plant, grow, and harvest bananas from your backyard or container with the newer cultivars that are extremely cold-hardy and have high wind resistance.
